What is Biomass?

What is a Biomass Boiler?

A Biomass Boiler, is basically a boiler that burns wood in the form of pellets. The boilers are exceptionally efficient, meaning a warmer house for less. The boilers come in various shapes and sizes, some with integral hoppers to pour the pellets into to feed the boiler when it is on, right up to systems that include a large automatic hopper, there’s a solution to fit most domestic or business needs.

The boilers work like any other central heating system, in that you can fully programme when you want the heating on or off and when you need hot water. You can also control your heating and hot water wherever you are, from an App on your phone. The boiler will also provide some ambient heat when it’s running. It’s simple! And our qualified fitters will take you through everything you need to know to get the best from your boiler. We also offer a servicing and maintenance package to keep it all running as it should.

We supply Klover Boilers, one of which is the popular Smart 120, which is a range cooker style boiler that also qualifies for the RHI payment.

And as testament to how outstanding we believe the Klover stoves are, we fitted one in our own home and our office. You are more than welcome to visit, by arrangement, to help you decide which type is right for you and your home.

There is a wide range of biomass boilers and stoves on the market. However, here at Bywhe we mainly install Klover‘s range of boilers as Ron and the team have many years working with the product and find it to be the very best in terms of quality, reliability and efficiency. Klover pellet stoves are made with care and attention using high specification materials and components; this quickly becomes apparent when you see one. Further to this Klover pellet boilers have typical efficiency levels of over 90%.

The Klover range includes:

  • The Smart 120 and 80 as well as providing hot water and heating also have the ability to cook food which doesn’t require high temperatures. They are the only ones in the range which are able to do this. These look great in your home and are also available in the more traditional design so are a great replacement for a rayburn or aga.
  • The Belvedere models are a popular choice at the moment and come in a range of colours. They are a sophisticated looking boiler with a glass panel to see the flames and can easily heat a medium size house.

The above ranges all provide heating to air which means they produce some heat to the room they are located in whereas other models provide it specifically to the radiators.

  • The Ecompact range consists of 4 models ranging from the 150 to the 290 to heat small to large houses. They are a more standard looking boiler and are often located in the utility room or even in an outside building.

Rob has a Klover Smart 120 stove which provides his hot water and heating and can be used for some cooking. Ron has a Diva Mid boiler which provides heating and hot water. It also provides hot water and heating for the Bywhe Office.

We get most of our stoves from Stovesonline and we are proud to be the approved installer of Klover products for Stovesonline in Cornwall and Devon and parts of Somerset. They are a family run business and have been selling stoves for over 35 years. They have a showroom based in Dunkeswell near Exeter.

What Is The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)?

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The RHI is paid to domestic customers by the Government to promote the use of renewable heat. As long as you meet the requirements installing a biomass boiler will mean you get payments every quarter for 7 years. In Spring 2017, these payments increased by approx. 60%.

To get an estimate of how much you may receive you can use this calculator Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive Payment Calculator. If you have an up to date Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) this will make it more accurate.

The supply, design and installation of the system is all sold to the customer at 5% VAT rather than the standard 20%.

Our Experience

Ron and the team have many years experience installing biomass boilers. We are fully accredited which means we can carry out the whole process from the design to installation of biomass systems of any size from an individual heating solution for your home, through to a complete heating system. All our work comes with a 5-year warranty for all the workmanship we have carried out.

In 2016 Ron spent a few days with other Klover installers in Italy looking at the new and existing products which was an invaluable experience.
